This is Mohamed. He is a Tuareg.
Tall, elegant. Calm, prudent, friendly. Modest. And proud. Proud in very healthy meaning of the word. Through him you can see his militant forefathers, corsairs. They made raids, Razzias, on European coastal towns to capture slaves to sell them at slave markets in Algeria, Lybia, Turkey, Egypt, Iran and Morocco. 1.5 millions of them. 400 years ago. Mohamed is chef at local (Tamanrasset) tourist organization. He cooks cuscus like no one does. Or is just feeling. Everything has special taste deep in Sahara. He works hard and only sees his wife and two small daughters for one day of the week. During the week he lives in tent somewhere in desert. Serves tourists. From out of space aliens would think those tourists are serving Tuaregs. _________________ Considering 85mm 1.8 glass. For portraits. Maybe. Shot from ultra marathon through Sahara. He has a very compelling face - it's his eyes... very well captured!
I hope to see more of your adventures in the Sahara soon. -- Au fond il n'y a rien de plus subjectif que l'objectif, nous ne montrons pas le monde tel qu'il existe vraiment. Ultimately, there is nothing more subjective than the lens, we don't show the world the way it is. ~ Robert Doisneau Excellent portrait and commentary! The color is striking

I think my favourite part of this photo is the way the eyes and even his facial expression seem to reveal a lot about him. When I first saw this photo all the words you used to describe him were the ones I was thinking of. It's rare that I get such a strong feeling from a photo, it's almost as if I know him already.
I love how you included a little background on him too; it adds a lot more value to the photo.
